Visit of OGDCL Officials for Collaboration with PIEAS A team of OGDCL officials visited PIEAS on July 11, 2024, to explore avenues for mutual collaboration. The first ever steering committee of ORIC/BIC after its constitution on 28-03-2024. was held on 26-06-2024. On May 24, 2024, we witnessed an inspiring display of innovation and engineering prowess at the Consumer Product Manufacturing Competition organized by AIChE and ORIC PIEAS.

Visit of WAPDA Engineering Academy Delegation

Participants of Special Elementary Management Course for Teachers, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) visited PIEAS as part of their technical study tour on July 24, 2024. The participants were led by Faculty Members of WAPDA Engineering Academy, Engr. Mahboob Farid and Engr. Rashid Mahmood. They were received by Director ORIC, Dr. Muhammad Tufail and ORIC placement coordinator, Mr. Tanveer Abbas. The group comprised of dedicated educators from WAPDA's various educational institutions, all keen to explore the state-of-the-art facilities and innovative academic programs offered by PIEAS. During their visit, a presentation was given on PIEAS's contributions to the field of engineering and applied sciences, showcasing successful research projects and collaborations with national and international institutions. The presentation was followed by a discussion session where the participants exchanged ideas with PIEAS faculty on fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation in their respective educational environments. Dr. Waqas Ahmed, Head PRD also briefed the teachers about STEM Career program. and its benefit to students. The participants were also given a detailed tour of the PIEAS campus, including its cutting-edge laboratories, research centers, and lecture halls. This collaborative interaction underscored the importance of continuous professional development and perfectly fits in WAPDA’s educational and organizational goals.



Visit of OGDCL Officials for Collaboration with PIEAS

Visit of OGDCL Officials for Collaboration with PIEAS A team of OGDCL officials visited PIEAS on July 11, 2024, to explore avenues for mutual collaboration. The team of ODGCL comprised of Mr. Yahya Tajveed (Manager MMD), Mr. Shakeel Ahmad (Chief Engineer Mechanical), Mr. Talat Haider (Chief Incharge Oil & Gas Training Institute), Mr. Ahmed Zia (Chief Engineer Electrical) and Mr. Ghulam Murtaza Lashari (Chief Engineer Process). PIEAS team was headed by Director ORIC and included Head of Departments from Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy & Materials Engineering, and Computer & Information Sciences. This meeting was in continuation of earlier meeting held between Dr. Khalid Waheed (Manager ORIC) and Mr. Ghulam Murtaza Lashari (Chief Engineer Process). The delegation was given an introduction to PIEAS and its research activities. Various areas including development of new materials for sensing, joint research on technologies to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and develop renewable energy sources were deliberated. Afterwards, OGDCL team visited various laboratory facilities of PIEAS.



ORIC and BIC Steering Committees Meetings

The first ever steering committee of ORIC/BIC after its constitution on 28-03-2024. was held on 26-06-2024. The steering committee discussed and approved various matters pertaining to ORIC/BIC policies, five year plans and promotion of entrepreneurship culture in the university. The steering committee comprises of Dr Naseem Irfan, Rector PIEAS (Convenor), with known industry experts and academics including Mr. Imtiaz A. Rastgar (Chairman Rastgar Group), Dr. Navid Jamil Malik (Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Sialkot), Dr Ahmed Hassan (Chaudhary Chief Executive Officer Cognitive Healthcare Intl., Islamabad), Dr Nasir Majid Mirza, (Former Rector PIEAS), Dr Naeem Iqbal (Dean Research PIEAS), Dr Anila Usman (Dean Applied Sciences PIEAS), Dr Rizwan Alim Mufti (Dean Engineering PEAS), Dr Muhammad Tufail (Director ORIC/Rep PIEAS), Dr Shazia Bashir (Manager RO PIEAS), Dr. Kamran Safdar (Manager BIC PIEAS).



Consumer Product Competition 2024

On May 24, 2024, we witnessed an inspiring display of innovation and engineering prowess at the Consumer Product Manufacturing Competition organized by AIChE and ORIC PIEAS. The teams showcased their creativity and technical skills, competing fiercely while maintaining a spirit of collaboration. The event highlighted the exceptional talent and dedication of our students, making it a memorable occasion for all involved.



Hult Prize Bangkok 2024 Summit

Ekolites” - A start up idea from PIEAS by Mohammad Ovais (DME) and Ayesha Nadeem (DCHE) under the supervision of Dr. Zahid Iqbal (DME) is selected in the Hult Prize Bangkok 2024 Summit at Chulalongkorn University as one of the few selected teams from over 10,000+ teams internationally. Hult Prize is a platform which challenges young people to solve the world’s most pressing issues through social entrepreneurship by funding $1M USD to make their idea a reality. Ekolites aims to fights with ongoing energy crisis Pakistan by retrofitting ordinary cycles and vehicles and converting them to electric cycles and Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) by integrating Power Electronics , making transportation more affordable for the middle-class people so they can travel for longer distances and achieve their dreams. Ekolites is simultaneously trying to reduce pollution and decrease fuel imports of Pakistan. Ovais and Ayesha deserve appreciation and are a role models for all young entrepreneurs at PIEAS who are struggling for their ideas.

PIEAS 1st Startup cohort held on 16th May 2024
The final competition to select the top five start-ups for the inaugural cohort of Aghosh at PIEAS was a landmark event, showcasing the innovative spirit and entrepreneurial talent within the university. The event was organized by BIC PIEAS on 16th May 2024 in PIEAS Lyceum. Out of 25 aspiring teams that applied, 16 promising startups were shortlisted to compete for a coveted spot in this groundbreaking cohort. The event was honored by the presence of the honorable Judges Mr. Hashim Akbar Khan (Founder of Reup-cycle, social entrepreneur) Mr. Kashif Manzoor (Leader of Traverse Pakistan, Adventurer), Dr.Jamil Ahmed (Pro-Rector, PIEAS), and PIEAS ORIC team

PIEAS Open House and Career Fare 2024

Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) Placement and ORIC office organized the PIEAS Open House and Career Fair 2024 on May 15th at the PIEAS campus. This event was a significant occasion where undergraduate students had the opportunity to showcase their final-year projects, which attracted substantial interest from a wide range of industries and companies. The projects demonstrated the students' technical skills, creativity, and innovative thinking. The event provided an excellent platform for students to engage with industry professionals, receive feedback on their work, and explore potential career paths. The enthusiasm and dedication of the students were evident, and the event highlighted the strong link between academic achievements and industry requirements. As a result, several companies extended job offers to the students, creating valuable networking and career opportunities. This successful event underscored the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in fostering the next generation of engineers and innovators.
